Chaton or jewellery crystal is use like a gemstone or diamond in jewellery, Bicone crystal is threaded on wire or thread to form the jewellery.

How are the earrings measured?

Earrings are measured from where the earring enters the ear to the bottom of the earring.  Width is the widest part of the earring.

"How can brilliance be optimized? That is the question concerning over 600 members of staff, who work in the research and development division of Swarovski. The Swarovski Optical Laboratory is the name of the scientific research center, which analyzes the paths of light, or more precisely the optical effectiveness of matter.

What makes this work so exciting?
Light paths can be affected by the minutest changes. The decisive factors are optical purity, transmission and refractive index, not forgetting of course the quality of the surface of the crystal - cut, polish and finish. The numerous variations which can be produced from this combination are examined in the Optical Laboratory. It is a complex task, however it is no coincidence that Swarovski leads the way in the field of crystal processing with an enormous head start. The very latest technical acquisitions for examining material and light, and computer simulations, all contribute to this. They make it possible to technically objectify and analyze otherwise subjective impressions of light.

Essential findings.
One particular focus of research concerns the propagation of light in crystal, which is examined by means of optical path analysis. It allows important criteria relating to brilliance properties to be identified and converted at an early stage. Amongst other things, we gain information on the cut concept and color effects, which we use to define the concept of brilliance that we aim to meet. That was also our aim with the further development of the Chaton Rose. The result - an amazingly brilliant light efficiency - yet another demonstration of Swarovski's competence and innovative capabilities.

A brilliant century.
Swarovski has built up amazing crystal expertise across a period of more than 100 years, and the future looks just as brilliant, in the most literal sense. Ongoing research makes sure of this. For example, the 12-faceted Chaton is perfect proof that customer-oriented optimization can also be incorporated in the development of the stones. Despite the simple appearance of a geometric form, changing only three proportional parameters opens up at least 20,000 stone shape variations, all of varying brilliance. This shows that it is possible to optimize the reflective properties."
